Browser local recording

Browser local recording is an optional presenter-side recording saved from the browser, separate from HeyStream cloud recording and replay. It is useful when you want a higher-quality local copy or individual presenter files after a broadcast.

When to use local recording

  • Use cloud recording for the standard replay and workspace recording archive.

  • Use browser local recording when you want presenter-side files for editing, repurposing, or backup.

  • Use audio-only mode when you only need clean presenter audio.

  • Use audio and video mode when you need presenter camera files as well as audio.

Availability

  • Browser local recording is available on Growth and Scale plans.

  • The maximum local recording resolution depends on your plan.

  • If local recording is not available on your plan, HeyStream shows an upgrade message instead of unusable controls.

Enable local recording

  1. Open the broadcast studio.

  2. Open the Recordings panel.

  3. In Local Recordings, select Manage.

  4. Turn on Enable Local Recording.

  5. Choose Audio + video or Audio only.

  6. Choose the maximum resolution available on your plan.

  7. Review the presenter coverage list and turn local recording off for anyone who should not be recorded locally.

During and after the broadcast

  • Local recording starts on each enabled presenter device when the live stream starts.

  • If a presenter joins after the stream starts, local recording can start automatically on their device when enabled for that presenter.

  • Local files may show states such as Recording, Finalizing, Uploading, Processing, Uploaded, Waiting to upload, or Upload failed.

  • If an upload fails or is waiting to upload, use the resume upload action from the local recording list.

Important notes

  • Keep the browser tab open until local recording files have finished finalizing and uploading.

  • Local recording depends on the presenter device and browser, so presenters should avoid closing the tab immediately after a broadcast ends.

  • Cloud recording remains the main replay source; local recording is an extra set of files for production workflows.
